Description

Queen Red from the Splintered series by A.G. Howard. I usually prefer the villains in a book or movie or whatever, and Red was no exception.

{SPOILERS!!!  For the book I mean } The Red King ditched her for her sister, and poor Red got killed... sort of-ish. Feel like there's more behind who she is, but WHATEVER. Cuz she's awesome. Like me. :D

Photo manipulation piece. Made using hands (and fingers), and tablet. I think I'll post a Holga-ish version of this too.

First off I'd like to say this is an amazing representation of Queen Red; I love it at least and there isn't much art of her from what I've seen. Secondly, well, you're right to say there's more behind who she is. Red has quite the history.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spoiler Alert::
The tragedies for Red started when she was young with her mother's death. Netherlings lack imagination and dreams which are required to keep the immortal spirits of them at peace. It is because of this that Red's mother, after death, was taken away to the cemetery to be watched over by Sister 1 and Sister 2. It is this that made Red determined to bring dreams to Wonderland so that she, and everyone else, would never have to be separated from their loved ones again. Quite the noble pursuit for the "villain" of the story, eh?
Red's father, the king, remarried after this since the queen is the one with power in Wonderland. Red got a new stepsister, Grenadine: a girl so forgetful that she forgot the most basic things quickly after learning them and so had to tie special ribbons that would whisper her reminders to her fingers. Red was preserving her mother's memory by doing things such as drinking ashes in her tea just as her mother had which made being around Red difficult for her father. However, Red's father doted on Grenadine, as did everyone around her, which made Red jealous.
Eventually Red came of age and became Queen of Wonderland. She took a husband but Red was so caught up in her plans to bring dreams to Wonderland that she often left him alone and they grew distant. He began to pursue Grenadine but she always turned down his advances. Red, who became even angrier at Grenadine, began to send a wind to her every day that would blow away her ribbons. Eventually Grenadine stopped tying them on and it was at this point that she and the Red King began their romance, falling in love anew every day. Red sent down the ribbons she had blown away to attack Grenadine only to find that they whispered "You must turn down the King's advances for Red is your sister" (well, something along those lines). As you can imagine Red was torn up by this realization.
All three of these events were forgotten by Red when she drank a memory potion to remove them. In doing so she forgot the true purpose for her pursuit of dreams and began to want to control them in Wonderland rather than share them.
There is more to Red's story but I'll leave the rest unspoiled for those who are interested in reading the books (which is something they should do right away)!
